At ministry, we have scheduled evangelism times throughout the week. We go to a local park and just talk to people. The truth is though, evangelism isn’t really an “event” but simply the way you go through life and interact with people as a Christian. It’s not about going up to random people and yelling at them to accept Jesus or go to hell, and it’s also not about seeing how many people you can get to say they accept Jesus as their Savior. The core of evangelism is love. Love of people and of God. It’s loving people so much that you can’t help but tell them about the best news in the world. I wanted to tell some stories of people I’ve met during our evangelism times, because they’re important. They might be the people you stand behind in the grocery store or pass when you walk through the park. They’re also children of the King.

Pedro - a quiet, contemplative man who knows Jesus, but feels shame. He doesn’t go to church very often because he can’t read or write, and he’s embarrassed by it. He may not fully understand how much the Lord loves him, and that the skills that he has or doesn’t have don’t change his citizenship in the Kingdom. We prayed that the Lord would show this to him and free him from shame.

Ignacio - a friendly and talkative man and graffiti artist. He was born in Costa Rica but lived in California, and he got sent back to Costa Rica because of some trouble he got into. He has respect for God, but feels like he has to “clean up” and be a better man before coming back to the Lord. The truth is the Lord loves him where he’s at and just wants him to come home. We prayed that he would understand that his past and mistakes aren’t what defines him, and that the Lord loves him regardless.

Andrés - a young guy who grew up Mormon, but isn’t sure what he believes. When we met him, he was anxious and scattered. He lost his job at the start of COVID and he was desperate. The Lord told me that he needed to hear about God’s peace, so I prayed that over him.

As always, if you have any questions about this or topics you would like me to write about, feel free to ask! Blessings!
