Last Saturday we began our drive from Georgia to Louisiana at around 6:30am. We were tired but SO excited to finally have our first ministry opportunity volunteering with Samaritan’s Purse, helping homeowners who were affected by the two hurricanes that hit Louisiana recently.

We made a stop in Lafayette, LA around sunset to get gas and food. We had just gotten done buying snacks and walked around the corner of the building when we ran into a few homeless women sitting on the ground. We decided to stop and take some time to talk with them, pray with them, and give them some of the snacks we had. They were so thankful we took the time to be with them and hear them. And honestly, it was so easy. It only took 15 extra minutes and a few dollars to help them feel just a little more seen and valued. A little more loved.

There were lots of amazing God moments and people we were able to help in our ministry with Samaritan’s Purse, but ministry doesn’t have to be a big event. In fact it shouldn’t be, for the most part. How many people do we interact with daily that are in the background of our lives? The homeless, yes, but even the fast food employees, the grocery store cashiers, the man standing behind you in line, the woman walking her dog that you see every morning. How easy would it be to minister to them?

Something I’m learning to walk in is a lifestyle of generosity. Whether small or large, being generous and thoughtful to strangers and friends can be so fruitful and an easy way to show love to people without saying anything. I’d encourage you to think about ways you can do something generous for someone during the week! Consider buying a meal for a homeless person, or paying for the person behind you at Starbucks. It’s a blessing to them and also to you.

Much love!
